Samsung Will Stop Producing the Galaxy Z TriFold Even Though It Always Sold Out
JAKARTA - South Korean technology giant Samsung Electronics is reportedly going to stop producing the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold three-screen foldable phone. Even though the premium device always sells out every time a new stock is released.
Reports from Korean media say Samsung will release a stock of the Galaxy Z TriFold on the domestic market this week. However, the restock is said to be the last before the company stops producing the device.
This news is quite surprising because the Galaxy Z TriFold actually shows strong demand. Every time Samsung releases a new stock, whether in South Korea, the United States or other markets, the device is reported to sell out immediately in a short time.
However, the number of units produced since the beginning is not large. Samsung is said to deliberately limit production because this device is a new design experiment with a very high price.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is one of Samsung's most ambitious innovations in the folding phone segment. This device uses a three-fold design that allows a larger screen when opened, unlike previous folding phone concepts such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series.
However, industry analysts believe that component costs are an important factor behind the decision. Memory and storage prices have reportedly increased significantly in recent times, thus reducing the profit margins of premium devices such as the Galaxy Z TriFold.
If Samsung continues to produce the device, the company will likely have to raise the selling price to maintain its profit margins. This step has the potential to trigger a negative reaction from consumers because the Galaxy Z TriFold itself is positioned as a very expensive phone.
Samsung is expected to choose to stop production sooner than initially expected and shift focus to other flagship device lines.
Currently, Samsung is preparing a new generation of folding phones, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, which are expected to be the backbone of the company's foldable strategy in the next few years.
So far there have been no reports that Samsung is developing a direct successor to the Galaxy Z TriFold. This strengthens the suspicion that the device serves more as an experimental technology product than a model intended for mass production.
If the report is accurate, the next restock could be the last chance for consumers to get the Galaxy Z TriFold before the device is completely disappeared from the market.
