Not Satisfied with Attacking Iran, Israel Announces Ground Invasion of South Lebanon

JAKARTA - The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that the Zionist military had begun a ground invasion of South Lebanon.

"In recent days, IDF forces from the 91st division have begun limited and targeted ground operations against Hezbollah's main strongholds in southern Lebanon, aimed at increasing the area of the front line defense," the Israeli military claimed in a statement, Monday, March 16, quoted by AFP.

The Israeli military said it would seek to dismantle Hezbollah's infrastructure and kill its members in the area "to remove the threat and create an additional layer of security for northern Israeli residents."

"Before the troops entered the area, the IDF carried out an attack using artillery and the Israeli Air Force against a number of terrorist targets to reduce the threat in the operational environment," the statement said.

Lebanon has been facing Israeli military attacks despite Israel-Hezbollah agreeing to a ceasefire in November 2024.

However, when the US-Israel attacked Iran starting on February 28 killing Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Hezbollah reacted violently by launching about six rockets across the border into Israeli territory on March 2.

Since then, the Israeli military has stepped up pressure by launching air raids on Lebanon and carrying out troop incursions into the border area, killing hundreds of Lebanese civilians.
