Bandung Police Investigate 13 Rubuh Kios in Soreang Clean Market
BANDUNG - The Bandung Regional Police (Polresta) in West Java, are investigating 13 kiosks that collapsed in the Soreang Clean Market which killed one person and injured three others.
The Head of the Bandung Police, Kombes Aldi Subartono, said that his party received a report that the market building collapsed due to the incident was part of the roof and the building's lip.
"It's true that there are several kiosks, about 13 kiosks that collapsed. So the roof or the edge of the building that collapsed," he said as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 16.
Aldi also explained that the first step taken by the police together with the residents was to help the victims and evacuate them from the ruins.
The deceased victim has been taken to the hospital for identification and autopsy to determine the cause of death, while the other three victims are being treated.
Meanwhile, the Bandung Police Criminal Investigation Unit is currently collecting facts on the ground, including witness statements, and conducting an examination related to the construction conditions of the building.
"Satreskrim Polresta Bandung is investigating this incident because there were victims who died. We also ask for the support of the Police to ensure a scientific investigation," he said.
The Bandung Police Chief emphasized that his party would involve construction experts to assess the condition of the building thoroughly before concluding the cause of the market collapse.
He also appealed to market managers and related services to immediately inspect other buildings built in the same year and by the same contractor, so as not to cause further casualties.
