Walkot Bandung Farhan Stops BRT Development Permit
BANDUNG - The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, has stopped all permits for the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project after finding a number of problems with the quality of infrastructure work in the field.
Farhan assessed that the implementation of the public transportation project had not shown a decent standard for a large project.
"The BRT is a very ugly job. There are no signs that it is a national strategic project. DPMPTSP, the permit was postponed until they could finish," said Farhan in Bandung, Monday, March 16.
He mentioned five locations that were in the spotlight because the condition of the work was considered not neat, namely on Jalan Ir. H. Juanda (Dago), Jalan Merdeka, Jalan R.E. Martadinata (Riau) in front of Bandung Pramuka Park, and two points in the Dago area, namely around Dago 101 and in front of the Bandung City Regional Health Laboratory.
"In fact, the BRT project is included in the category of National Strategic Projects (PSN) which should have good development quality," he said.
According to Farhan, improvements at these points must be completed first before there is any other continuation of work.
"I decided to freeze all BRT development permits until they can clean up the existing ones in five points," he said.
Farhan also emphasized that the city government would not allow new work to be added, both for the construction of the corridor and work outside the BRT corridor, before the repairs were carried out thoroughly.
"Until today, the status is that my review shows that the Bandung City Government rejects BRT if it sees the results of such work," he said.
Farhan hopes that the contractor and related parties will immediately improve so that the quality of the public transportation infrastructure is in accordance with the standards of the national strategic project and can provide maximum benefits for the people of Bandung City in the long term.
