Komdigi Promises Wikimedia Access Will Return to Normal After PSE Registration

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital said it would immediately restore access to Wikimedia, after they completed the registration process as a Private Scope Electronic System Operator (PSE) after being verified.

Previously, Komdigi restricted access to the login feature on the subdomain auth.wikimedia.org since February 25, 2026, because the Wikimedia Foundation had not fulfilled the PSE registration obligation.

However, the Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Komdigi, Alexander Sabar, appreciated the communication that has been built by Wikimedia regarding its commitment to fulfill the obligation to register digital platforms in Indonesia.

"We appreciate the communication that has been built by Wikimedia and its commitment to follow up on the registration process as a Private Scope PSE, and the normalization of access to affected services will be carried out after the registration process is verified," Alex said in a statement on Monday, March 16.

This provision is regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Number 5 of 2020, which requires every digital platform that provides services, processes personal data, and its services are available and/or used in the territory of Indonesia to register.

Although Alex expressed great appreciation for Wikimedia's contribution in providing knowledge to the public, he emphasized that openness to information must be in line with legal compliance.

"Registration of PSE is a form of accountability of the platform to the public, as well as ensuring a clear liaison for technical coordination, handling of illegal content, and protection of user rights in Indonesia," he said.

According to him, the non-profit status is not an exception in the right of responsibility to provide protection of the personal data of Indonesian citizens, because in the digital space, security risks do not look at the status of the organization.
