The Bus Is Troubled, Transjakarta Denies Polda Metro Problem Using Used Tires, Retreads
JAKARTA - Yesterday, TMC Polda Metro Jaya uploaded a photo of a Transjakarta bus that was experiencing tire problems next to the Harmoni Post, Central Jakarta. Polda Metro said that the Transjakarta bus was a nuisance because it used a retread tire that had a problem.
Retread tires are used tires that are re-coated so that they look like new tires. Retreading is often used on trucks.
"The Transjakarta bus has a tire problem (the retread comes off) next to the Harmoni Post, Central Jakarta, and is already under the care of a mechanic," wrote the TMC Polda Metro account on its Facebook account, Thursday, June 3.
However, this was denied by PT Transport Jakarta. President Director of PT Transjakarta, Sardjono Jhony Tjitrokusumo ensured that all units of his bus fleet did not use retreaded tires.
"Transjakarta has never used retreaded tires on all fleets, both self-managed and operator-owned. We ensure Transjakarta provides the best, both in terms of service and all the facilities provided," said Jhony in his statement, Friday, June 4.
Jhony explained that the bus that was damaged in Harmoni only had a broken tire on the right front wheel of the bus. So, when it breaks, it looks like loose vulcanization.
Jhony emphasized that the tires used in the fleet with body number Tj217 on the PGC-Harmoni route were produced in 2016. The tires are also still in good condition. In fact, he said, the last time the bus passed the KIR test was on February 9, 2021.
"This is purely a tire burst. It must be understood, if the tire bursts, it does not mean retreading because on the original tire it can happen," he said.
When the tire burst, continued Jhony, the police directed the fleet to keep going until the Harmoni bus stop, so the tires were torn around them.
"Transjakarta is still conducting further investigations to find out the exact cause," he concluded.
