Minister of Trade: Prices of Basic Commodities are Stable Ahead of Eid
JAKARTA - Trade Minister Budi Santoso ensures that the prices of basic necessities in a number of markets are still relatively stable and stocks are available ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
When conducting a direct inspection at the Rawasari Market in Jakarta, Monday, Budi said the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) carried out direct supervision of the market to ensure the availability of goods and stability of prices at the level of traders.
According to him, the government's presence in the market can also provide a psychological effect on traders so that they do not sell commodities above the reference selling price (HAP) and the highest retail price (HET).
"In addition, in fact, by checking to the market, it can psychologically affect traders not to sell expensive or not to sell above HET, yes. We continue to do that," said Budi as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 16.
Based on the results of monitoring at the Rawasari Market, a number of major commodities are still at a reasonable price range.
The price of chicken was recorded at around Rp40 thousand per kilogram, in accordance with the HAP. Meanwhile, red onions are sold at Rp40 thousand per kilogram with a HAP of Rp41,500.
People's cooking oil or Minyakita is sold at around Rp15,700 per liter, or in accordance with the HET set by the government.
Budi said the government also encouraged the availability of other brands of cooking oil as a companion to Minyakita so that the public had more choices at affordable prices.
"There are also many second-brand oils. Second-brand oil is actually a companion oil to Minyakita so that the public has many choices. Not only Minyakita which is affordable but we also want there to be other oils that are affordable for the public," he said.
However, Budi said there were several commodities that experienced a slight price increase, such as red chilies and eggs, as demand increased ahead of Eid.
According to him, the increase is still within reasonable limits. The government will continue to monitor the prices and supply of basic commodities until the Lebaran period to ensure that people's needs are still met, one of which is through the Market and Basic Needs Monitoring System (SP2KP).
"So every day there is a contribution from several regions. So there are 550 market points that we continue to monitor, we follow the price developments," he explained.
