South Korea considers Trump's request to send a ship to the Strait of Hormuz
JAKARTA - The South Korean presidential office said it would carefully consider US President Donald Trump's request to send a ship to the Strait of Hormuz.
An official at the office said South Korea (South Korea) was watching Trump's social media posts about the Strait of Hormuz, the main oil shipping route in the Gulf region, which was closed by Iran during the war against the US-Israel.
On Saturday last weekend, Trump asked South Korea and other affected countries to send ships so that the strait remains "open and safe," amid growing concerns about global oil shipments.
Trump also named China, France, Japan, and the United Kingdom as countries affected by Iran's "unilateral restrictions" in the strait.
"International maritime security and freedom of navigation are in line with the interests of all countries and are protected by international law," the official said, quoted by ANTARA from Yonhap, Monday, March 16.
"Based on this, we hope that the global maritime logistics network will soon return to normal," he said.
