Bandung City Government Tightens Supervision of Students After a Student at SMAN 5 Died Allegedly Being Bullied

BANDUNG - The Bandung City Government has tightened supervision and guidance for students after a student from SMAN 5 Bandung died allegedly due to a beating in the Cihampelas Street area, Bandung City.

The Mayor of Bandung Muhammad Farhan ensured that the city government would strengthen cooperation with the Bandung Police to improve the guidance of students.

"We will increase the guidance for students, especially groups of teenagers who often gather in a number of stalls or hangouts around the school," said Farhan in Bandung, Antara, Sunday, March 15.

Farhan revealed that based on information obtained by the city government, there were a number of groups of students who had been identified as often gathering and calling themselves certain groups of hangouts.

"From the information we get, there are several groups of high school children who gather at stalls near the school. This is being identified and will be a concern for coaching," he said.

He assessed that prevention efforts could not be carried out by the government and the police alone, but also required the active role of the school.

Therefore, the Bandung City Government will invite school principals to strengthen communication and share information related to the dynamics of student socialization.

"Without information from the school principal, the city government and the police cannot do maximum prevention," said Farhan.

Previously, an amateur video recording showing a clash in the Cihampelas Street area went viral on social media.

In the video, a man who is suspected of being a victim of a beating is seen lying on the side of the road.

Coblong Police Chief Riki Erickson said the suspected incident involved students from SMAN 5 Bandung and SMAN 2 Bandung.

"Yes, the child of SMAN 5 Bandung died, currently handled by Polrestabes Bandung," said Riki.

The police are still conducting further investigations to uncover the chronology and parties involved in the incident.
