Latest Samsung Fold Leak: 7.6-inch Screen Wider, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Chip
Jakarta - Samsung is reportedly preparing a new foldable smartphone with a wider screen design than the current foldable model. The latest leak reveals that the device will bring a 7.6-inch main screen and the latest generation flagship chipset.
This information comes from the Digital Chat Station technology leaker who shared it via the Weibo social media platform. According to the leak, this folding device will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a chipset that is also expected to be used in the next generation of Samsung's foldable line.
With the processor, the performance of this device is expected to be equivalent to premium folding smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 which are predicted to launch in the near future.
In terms of power, this device is said to use a dual-cell battery with a typical capacity of around 4,800mAh. The configuration consists of two battery cells with a capacity of 2,267mAh and 2,393mAh with a minimum total capacity of around 4,660mAh.
This type of dual battery design is commonly used in folding smartphones because it allows the battery to be distributed on both sides of the device when folded.
But the most interesting thing about this leak is the design of its main screen. The internal screen size is said to reach 7.6 inches - the same as the size of the main screen on the current Galaxy Z Fold series. The difference lies in the screen ratio.
Samsung's new foldable is expected to have a shorter but wider shape, so when opened it will resemble a tablet with a ratio of around 4:3. A wider screen ratio is usually more comfortable for typing, reading documents, and watching videos.
The device is also said to be launched in the South Korean domestic market, indicating that Samsung has at least prepared an initial launch in its home country.
The design leak also appeared in the One UI 9 operating system build, strengthening the suspicion that Samsung is indeed testing several folding device concepts at once.
This strategy shows that Samsung is not only focusing on one foldable design. The company likely wants to offer several variations of the foldable device shape - from high-end models like the Galaxy Z Fold to wide-screen models that resemble tablets.
In a landscape of mobile technology that continues to experiment, foldable is the wildest design laboratory. Manufacturers are looking for the "ideal" shape of a device that can be a smartphone and a tablet at the same time. There are tall and slender ones, there are wide ones like books, even three-fold ones.
Its evolution is similar to a biological experiment in nature: many design mutations, some fail, some survive, and one or two forms eventually become the new standard used by the entire industry. Samsung seems to still continue to play in that laboratory.
