North Korea Launches Ballistic Missile into Sea of Japan, South Korean Government Holds Emergency Meeting
JAKARTA - South Korea's presidential office said on Saturday (14) that the National Security Office, which is under the auspices of the president, held an emergency meeting following the launch of at least 10 North Korean ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan.
"The National Security Agency assesses the impact of this launch on national security and reviews the necessary countermeasures," the statement said.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other related agencies. It is said that the president received information about the missile launch situation and the measures taken, the administration added.
The meeting stressed the need to maintain the readiness of joint exercises between South Korea and the US Freedom Shield, which will be held on March 9-19, he said.
Seoul further stated that the launch of North Korea's ballistic missile was considered to have violated the UN Security Council resolution.
