Watered with Hard Water, the Face of the KontraS Activist Was Peeling, the Police Investigated 2 Perpetrators

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has identified two people suspected of being involved in the case of pouring hard water on the Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andre Yunus (27). The incident occurred on Thursday night, March 12, 2026, in the Salemba Road area, Central Jakarta.

Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, said that initial information from the investigation led to two people who were suspected of being the perpetrators. However, until now the police are still investigating the involvement of the two.

"If the initial information there are two people who should be suspected, but this is still being investigated by us. We are now prioritizing recovery first to the victim, Brother AY," Budi told reporters at the Polda Metro Jaya, Friday, March 13, 2026.

Budi explained that the victim suffered serious injuries due to the hard liquid sprayed by the perpetrator. The wound was in the form of peeling skin on several parts of the body.

"At the time of watering, peeling occurs on the hands, body, and face. Currently, we are focusing on medical treatment for victims," he said.

According to him, the condition of the victim, who is still in the recovery process, makes Andre unable to provide much information to investigators.

"The current condition of the victim has not been able to provide much information to the police. We give space to the victim and the medical team to recover first," he explained.

However, the police continued the investigation process by examining witnesses and collecting evidence around the scene of the incident.

"We are examining witnesses and collecting evidence from the outer circle, including processing the crime scene," said Budi.

He added that the police would also trace the surveillance camera (CCTV) footage around the location to help uncover the perpetrators.

"CCTV around the location will certainly be combed. It is a technique of investigation carried out by the police, but we do not need to convey it in detail," he said. The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), previously conveyed that Deputy Coordinator of Kontras Andrie Yunus had suffered a hard water spray attack by Unknown Persons (OTK) which resulted in serious injuries throughout the body.

KontraS coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya said the incident occurred shortly after Andrie Yunus had finished a podcast titled "Remiliterisme dan Judicial Review di Indonesia" at the Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) Office at around 23.00 WIB.

"After the incident, Andrie Yunus was immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment. From the results of the examination, Andrie suffered 24% burns," he said in a written statement.
