Abaya Modern is Back in Popular, Elegant Ramadan and Eid Outfit Choices

JAKARTA - Ahead of Eid, many people start hunting for clothes that are not only comfortable to wear, but also look elegant. The Eid dress trend in recent years tends to lead to a simple but classy style, with loose silhouettes and light materials.

One of the models that has again attracted attention is the modern abaya, which now comes with a more varied design and is easy to combine with various styles of Muslim clothing.

Previously, abaya was synonymous with a simple black dress that originated from the Middle East. Now, this fashion has evolved into one of the popular choices for Ramadan and Eid collections. The design is more diverse, ranging from color games, motif details, to more contemporary pieces without leaving the character of modest fashion.

The transformation was seen in the second day of the Ramadan Runway 2026. At the event, various designers presented modern interpretations of abayas that combine traditional values with a more contemporary design approach.

The modest fashion brand Hikmat opened the show with a collection of matching abayas that were displayed in eight looks. Black, orange, and light gray were the main palette of this collection.

One of the designs that caught the attention was Noura Chaine Abaya, which featured artistic geometric motif details on the shoulder and arm resembling a series of elegant ornaments. The subtle vertical lines blend with the flowing silhouette to give the impression of a modern and modern look.

"Each element is designed to create a sophisticated look without losing the timeless modest character," said designer Hikmat, Hikmat Salih Ahmed.

Abayas are increasingly in demand because their loose cut makes the wearer more free to move, especially for those who have quite a busy activity. Its simple yet elegant silhouette also gives the impression of being mature and neat. Not only suitable for wearing during Ramadan or Lebaran, modern abayas can also be worn for various other occasions so that they become a fairly flexible fashion choice.

In combining abaya with hijab, the choice of color is important. The color of the hijab should be in harmony with the clothing or at least be in the same tone so that the appearance looks harmonious.

Adding accessories such as belts can also be an option to give variety to the style, but still need to pay attention to the silhouette of the abaya so that the flowy impression does not disappear. In addition, the selection of shoes also has an effect on the overall appearance, especially to create a sense of hierarchy.

In addition to Hikmat, the Ramadan Runway stage also presents a collection of modest fashion from a number of other designers and brands such as Parahyangan, Wina Sadikin, Luna Hijab Indonesia, Nobby, Batique, Malik Moestaram, Bella Hasura, Defrico Audy X Secret of 101, Djenggala, Liyan Indonesia, and Wulang Narawangsa.

This year's Ramadan Runway involves more than 60 designers and around 80 local tenants. The event takes place from March 5-29, 2026 at the Grand Atrium, Mosaic Walk, and Fashion Atrium of Kota Kasablanka. This annual event, which is a collaboration between the Indonesian Fashion Designer Entrepreneurs Association (APPMI) Jakarta and Kota Kasablanka, carries the theme "Blooming Ramadan".

"Ramadan Runway is held every year to encourage the development of the creative economy sector, especially the local fashion industry, through activities that are exploratory, educational, and also sustainable promotion in welcoming the month of Ramadan," said Dana Duriyatna.

In addition to presenting a fashion show and exhibition for almost a month, the Ramadan Runway series of events is also filled with various other activities. Visitors can attend hijab styling workshops, make-up classes for Eid, to Lebaran style mix and match sessions.
