VIDA Warns of a Surge in Digital Fraud Ahead of THR and Salary Payments
JAKARTA - Ahead of the disbursement of the Eid Bonus (THR), VIDA, a provider of digital identity and fraud prevention solutions in Indonesia, launched the 'Don't Just Click' campaign, and a whitepaper titled "VIDA 2026 SEA Digital Identity Fraud Outlook."
Through these two initiatives, VIDA works with the Ministry of Communication and Digital to encourage anti-scam literacy, especially during periods when people's digital activities increase and are often used by fraudsters.
VIDA Chief Operating Officer, Victor Indajang, said the momentum of the THR disbursement was often used by cyber criminals because people's digital activities increased, both for online shopping, financial transactions, and sharing information through short messages.
In the report, VIDA noted that fraud activity increased in several waves that followed the stages of the THR disbursement process.
The first spike occurred when the administrative process of the state civil servant THR began about two weeks before the holiday. Fraud activity then increased again when the official date of THR disbursement was announced and funds began to be transferred to the recipient's account.
The next wave emerged at the end of the month when the private sector's THR payment coincided with the monthly salary period. At that moment, perpetrators took advantage of the high expectations of the public for financial notifications to spread various fraud methods such as fake links, phishing, and impersonating banks or digital platforms.
Seeing these threats, VIDA invites the community to build safer digital habits, such as:
Don't click links from unknown messages, especially those that create a sense of panic Don't share OTP, PIN, or verification codes in any form Be aware of APK files or documents that ask for the installation of additional applications Double-check every request for fund transfer, even if it is on behalf of the closest personVictor also emphasized that the habit of verification is a simple step that has a big impact, especially during the THR disbursement period.
"We believe public awareness is the foundation of security and trust in the digital ecosystem. Education needs to start with oneself by understanding the signs of fraud, being aware of the risks, and thinking twice or three times before clicking on a link," said Victor.
