Doctor Reveals This Eating Pattern Can Cause Young Generation to Suffer from Kidney Failure
JAKARTA - The case of kidney failure is currently attacking more and more young generations. One of the main causes of this is due to the poor eating habits that young people often do today.
According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Nephrology Association (PB PERNEFRI), Dr. Pringgodigdo Nugroho, Sp.PD-KGH, foods that are high in calories and sugar can have a bad effect on the kidneys if consumed long term.
"For example, high calories, which are sweet," said Dr. Pringgodigdo, when met in Central Jakarta, written Friday, March 13, 2026.
Obesity, diabetes, and hypertension are also other factors that support kidney damage. Moreover, if hypertension is not realized and often consumes foods with high salt content, the chances of kidney failure are greater.
"Later, directly through diabetes, it can also (kidney failure)," he said.
"Likewise, through hypertension, yes, foods that contain high salt. We know that many instant foods contain high salt. Hypertension eventually leads to kidney disease," he added.
Then, Dr. Pringgodigdo said that at a young age, ranging from 20 to 30 years old, kidney inflammation or glomerulonephritis is currently the most common cause of kidney failure cases.
"This usually has no symptoms, unless he checks the urine, and the urine has red blood cells or albumin that should be negative," he explained.
The deteriorating kidney health condition is usually known when other signs appear, namely foaming urination. However, this sign indicates that there is already a urine leak or severe albuminuria.
"Because at the beginning there are no symptoms, usually young people have failed kidneys, mostly because of this disease, kidney inflammation disease," concluded Dr. Pringgodigdo.
