No Viral No Justice phenomenon, Burhanuddin asks prosecutors to master the new KUHAP

JAKARTA - Attorney General ST Burhanuddin highlighted the phenomenon of no viral no justice that has recently been widely discussed in the dynamics of law enforcement in Indonesia. He asked all members of the Attorney General's Office to transform and not work reactively to public opinion pressure.

The statement was made by Burhanuddin during a virtual working visit on Thursday, March 12. The activity was attended by the ranks of the prosecutor's office from across Indonesia, including representatives of the Attorney General's Office in several countries, such as Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Riyadh.

According to Burhanuddin, the phenomenon of no viral no justice must be a material for reflection for law enforcement institutions so as not to wait for public scrutiny to act.

"Recently, it has become attention to the emergence of the no viral no justice phenomenon as a form of fundamental self-criticism for the prosecutor's office not to be trapped in a reactive work pattern, but rather to transform into a proactive and consistent institution on the rule of law without having to wait for legitimacy from public opinion," he explained.

In addition to highlighting the phenomenon, Burhanuddin also reminded his staff not to make substantive mistakes in handling cases.

He asked prosecutors to comprehensively master the law, especially in the implementation of the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and in the use of the principle of dominus litis, namely the authority of prosecutors in controlling criminal cases in a professional and accountable manner.

According to him, mastery of legal substance is very important to maintain the quality of law enforcement as well as increase public confidence in the prosecutor's institution.

Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, Burhanuddin also reminded all levels of the prosecutor's office not to use the momentum to abuse their authority or commit despicable acts.

He emphasized that prosecutors must maintain integrity and must not make their positions a means of transaction or extortion against the community. "Prosecutors are not transactional tools or means of extortion for the community, and there will be no tolerance for individuals who betray their oath of office," he said.

Burhanuddin revealed that currently the level of public confidence in the Adhyaksa Corps is showing a positive trend. In this regard, he asked all levels to maintain this achievement by avoiding all forms of ethical and legal violations.

In his instructions, the attorney general also asked the ranks of the prosecutor's office to also control the government's economic policies, especially regarding efforts to mitigate the surge in the price of basic necessities. He instructed prosecutors in the regions to actively coordinate with the regional inflation control forum to maintain price stability ahead of religious holidays.

In addition, Burhanuddin also asked the heads of the working units to evaluate and inventory the evidence of the case which has a permanent legal force but has not been fully executed.

This step is considered important to maintain the professionalism and integrity of the prosecutor's institution. Burhanuddin conveyed his congratulations on the 1447 Hijri Eid al-Fitr to all levels of the prosecutor's office in Indonesia and those serving abroad.

He invited prosecutors to continue to maintain the integrity of the institution and carry out their duties with dedication and responsibility. "Continue to maintain the integrity of the institution, strengthen the integrity, and work with dedication, integrity, and responsibility," he concluded.
