Trump boasted of destroying Iran's power grid in an hour, Larijani: The whole area will be dark
JAKARTA - The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Larijani, warned on Thursday that the region would be "dark" if the United States attacked the electricity infrastructure of the State of the Mullahs.
In a post on the social media X, Larijani said US President Donald Trump claimed Washington could destroy Iran's electricity capacity within an hour.
"Well, if they do that, the whole area will be dark in less than half an hour," Larijani wrote, adding that the resulting power outage would create conditions for chasing the US soldiers who "ran for safety," reported Anadolu (12/3).
Previously, President Trump told reporters that Washington could attack key infrastructure in Tehran and other locations, potentially destroying Iran's electricity capacity.
"We can strike parts of Tehran and other places that, if you do it, it's almost impossible for them to rebuild their country, and we don't want that," he said.
"We can destroy their electrical capacity in one hour, and it will take them 25 years to rebuild it, so ideally we won't do that," claimed President Trump.
It is known that tensions have increased in the Middle East, following the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, which Tehran said killed more than 1,300 people, including Ali Khamenei, the former supreme leader, and more than 150 students.
Since then, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
Tehran has also effectively tightened the Strait of Hormuz since March 1. This narrow waterway transports around 20 million barrels of oil per day and about 20 percent of global liquefied natural gas trade.
