Trump's Ambition to Continue Military Operations in Iran Until It is Completely Finished
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said the United States had "won" the war with Iran, but would continue military operations until the mission was truly complete.
"We're not leaving until the job is done and it will be very fast, it will be very fast," Trump said at an event in Kentucky, as reported by Anadolu, Thursday, March 12.
Tensions in the region have escalated since February 28, when the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran that killed more than 1,300 people, including former Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Trump explained that his party had destroyed 58 Iranian naval vessels. He also said that the military operation had achieved great success. However, Trump cautioned that he preferred not to declare victory too early.
"We've won. I'm telling you, we've won. You know, you never like to say too soon you've won. We won. We won the bet, in the first hour; it's all over," he said.
Trump reiterated that the US was doing what he called "tourism".
"You know the excursion? We had to make a little trip to get rid of some bad people, very bad. It should have been done 47 years ago. They have killed our people," he said.
He said Iran was "ready".
"They are very strong, you know. They will try to dominate the entire Middle East. They will destroy Israel. They don't know what hit them, do they? They don't know that they were hit by the American military. They didn't expect this," Trump said.
Trump stressed that the US did not want to complete the military operation too quickly.
"We don't want to go too fast, right? We have to finish this job. Over the past 11 days, our military has practically destroyed Iran, a tough country," he said.
