Zulhas ensures that the stock of Indonesian food is safe for up to a year: We are not affected by the Middle East war
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan has ensured that food stocks for the people of the country are safe for Eid, even in the next year. He emphasized that Indonesian food is not affected by the Middle East war because there is no import from conflict-ridden countries.
Zulhas said that food prices ahead of Eid al-Fitr were still quite stable even though there were some commodities that had increased, such as eggs.
"Food, our food stock is sufficient, the price is affordable. Even a week before, 10 days before this Eid, it tends to go down like chili. Indeed, the eggs are a bit higher but still within the reference price limit, still a reference," said Zulhas at the PAN DPP Office, Thursday, March 12.
"So it's still stable even though it's going up, but it's still within the reference. It's true that chili is very expensive, but now from Rp. 150 (per kilogram), 120, now maybe it's already 90 thousand," he continued.
The PAN General Chairperson also ensured that Indonesia's food stocks would not be affected by the Iran vs. United States-Israel war and its surroundings because Indonesia does not import food from countries in the Middle East. He emphasized that Indonesia has entered into food self-sufficiency for several major commodities.
"So everything is safe even though there is a war in the Middle East, our food is not affected because we do not import food from the Middle East," said Zulhas.
"We are self-sufficient in rice, self-sufficient in corn, chicken, fish, yes. What we import is wheat, wheat is not from the Middle East but from Europe and Canada, yes," he added.
Not only before Eid, Zulhas ensures that the Indonesian food stock is safe for the next one year. He asked the public not to worry about the lack of food ingredients in the current geopolitical situation.
"It's enough for a year," he concluded.
