Rupiah has the potential to weaken amid concerns about oil supplies
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on Thursday, March 12, 2026 is expected to weaken against the US dollar.
To note, quoting Bloomberg, on Wednesday, March 11, the spot rupiah exchange rate closed down 0.14 percent to Rp16,886 per US dollar.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of the Bank Indonesia (BI) closed up 0.07 percent to a price level of Rp16,867 per US dollar.
Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong, predicts that the rupiah exchange rate will weaken against the US dollar.
He added that this condition was influenced by the re-emergence of concerns about the potential for global crude oil supply disruptions.
"The rupiah is expected to weaken against the US dollar amid a return of concerns about the disruption of global crude oil supplies," he told VOI, Thursday, March 12.
On the other hand, Lukman added that the world crude oil price has again increased, despite the hope of support from the plan to release large amounts of oil reserves by member countries of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
"World crude oil prices have again jumped even though there is hope for support from the plan to release large reserves of oil by IEA members," he explained.
Lukman estimates that the movement of the rupiah on Thursday, March 12, 2026 will be in the range of Rp16,800-Rp16,950 per US dollar.
