In the midst of global conflict, Ramadan is reminded to strengthen unity

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized that Ramadan is not only about worship, but also a space to care for togetherness and national unity. The message was conveyed during a gathering and breaking the fast together with the Ministry of Culture's large family at the Insan Berprestasi Plaza, Wednesday, March 11.

In front of the ministry staff, Fadli said the tradition of breaking the fast together or iftar was not a new practice. He said the tradition had even been recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage registered by a number of countries. In Indonesia, similar traditions have long been alive in the form of socializing, lectures, and then closing with a joint fast.

According to Fadli, such momentum is important to maintain cohesiveness in the ministry environment. He also reminded that the same spirit needs to be maintained in celebrating all major religious days in Indonesia, whether Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, or other beliefs.

Fadli emphasized that Indonesia's diversity is not a threat, but a strength. "We are a country that is indeed different but still one. Harmony in the life of the nation and the state is our wealth. The megadiversity we have is not something that threatens unity, but rather becomes a binding power and energizing force that strengthens the nation," he said.

He then touched on the global situation which is filled with conflicts and has an impact on the world economy. Therefore, he assessed that Indonesia should be grateful to remain in a safe and conducive condition. The stability and harmony of the nation, he said, must continue to be maintained, especially in the month of Ramadan which is closely associated with brotherhood and forgiveness before Eid al-Fitr.

The event was also filled with literary tausiyah and dai Habiburrahman El Shirazy or Kang Abik. In his lecture, he reminded the importance of Lailatul Qadar and the importance of maximizing the last ten nights of Ramadan with worship, prayer, and introspection.
