Swiss Open 2026: KW's daughter advances to the second round
JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani managed to secure a ticket to the second round of the 2026 Swiss Open. She stopped the Indian women's singles, Tanvi Sharma, without serious obstacles.
The daughter, who has the status of the first seed in the BWF Super 300-level tournament, locked in a two-game victory 21-11 and 21-10 in a short 30-minute match at the St. Jakobshalle on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, WIB afternoon.
Putri admitted that she was happy because she could play well and bring out all the patterns and techniques of the game in the first competitive clash with Tanvi.
"At first it was a little tense because Tanvi Sharma has recently been in the spotlight because she beat Okuhara and played rubber against Wang Zhi Yi," said the Tangerang-born badminton player after the match.
In the first game, Putri received a tight resistance so that she was 6-8 behind. He then managed to win three points in the interval and immediately added two consecutive points after that to get away.
Putri then appeared more dominant in the second game after the score was 3-3. He managed to lead with a seven-point gap at the break and was really unstoppable after that.
"There are no significant field adjustments. For competition, I think everyone who came here is pretty good too. So, I can't slack off in every match," said Putri.
Putri is the only Indonesian women's singles player to play in this tournament. She will then meet the winner of Huang Yu Hsun from China Taipei versus Wong Ling Ching from Malaysia.
This is the fifth tournament that Putri has participated in this year's calendar. He previously reached the semifinals at the Malaysia Open and India Open twice in a row, was stopped in the second round of the Indonesia Masters, and advanced to the quarterfinals at the All England.
