North Korea Supports Mojtaba Khamenei, Condemns US-Israel Attack on Iran
JAKARTA - North Korea expressed support for the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the supreme leader of Iran. At the same time, Pyongyang again condemned the United States and Israel's attacks on Iran, which it called a violation of the law.
Citing Al Jazeera which referred to a report by the North Korean government news agency, KCNA, Wednesday, March 11, a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said his country respected Iran's decision to choose Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader. Mojtaba is the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in a US-Israeli attack at the beginning of the war, February 28.
In its statement, North Korea confirmed its respect for the right and choice of the Iranian people to choose their supreme leader. Pyongyang also expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the US and Israeli aggression, which it considered damaging the foundations of regional peace and security and increasing global instability.
The spokesman also assessed that the attack had disrupted Iran's political system and territorial integrity. According to him, such actions are unacceptable and must be rejected by the world.
The attitude continued North Korea's condemnation since the US-Israeli war against Iran broke out 12 days ago. At that time, Pyongyang called the actions in the Middle East "gangster-style" behavior.
At the same time, KCNA, as reported by Al Jazeera, also reported that Kim Jong Un was again overseeing the test launch of a strategic cruise missile from North Korea's newest destroyer, Choe Hyon. On that occasion, Kim stressed the importance of maintaining and expanding his country's nuclear deterrent capabilities.
The test was the second missile launch from the destroyer, which was overseen directly by Kim. Last week, he also praised his country's move, which he said had armed the navy with nuclear weapons.
