Iran Condemns UN Security Council Draft Resolution Defending US-Israel

JAKARTA - Iran's envoy to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, warned that a draft Security Council resolution supported by Gulf countries condemning Iran's attacks in the region would permanently damage the body's reputation.

From the circulated text ahead of the scheduled vote, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reportedly condemned Iran's missile and drone attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan and demanded an immediate cessation of all attacks.

"Several members of the Council are trying to reverse the roles and positions of the victim and the aggressor," Iravani said at a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York on the vote to be held Wednesday.

According to Iravani, the draft seeks to reward the aggressor and punish the victim through a biased and politically motivated resolution.

"Such actions, if adopted, would be very damaging and undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the Council," he said, warning that the resolution would have long-term consequences.

"If the draft is adopted, it will tarnish the credibility and reputation of the Security Council," Iravani said, adding "if that happens, the aggressors, namely Israel and the United States, will be rewarded and encouraged to carry out further acts of aggression," he added.

Iravani further warned about bets that go far beyond Iran.

"Today, it's Iran. Tomorrow, it could be another sovereign nation," he said.

"The international community must act now to stop this bloody war against the Iranian people," he continued.

He also highlighted the victims of the US-Israeli attack and argued "they deliberately and discriminatorily target civilians and civilian infrastructure across my country."

Iravani said there were more than 1,300 civilian casualties, in addition to destroying 9,669 civilian locations, including 7,943 residential houses, 1,617 commercial and service centers.

"These numbers continue to increase every day in line with the ongoing military attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against war crimes in various cities in Iran," he added.
