Komdigi Nilai Sistem Algoritma Memperparah Penyebaran Penipuan Digital
JAKARTA - Algorithms on digital platforms are considered to be able to increase the potential for the spread of digital fraud because the system works by amplifying user interests and behavior on the internet.
The Director of Certification and Electronic Transactions Supervision of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Teguh Arifiyadi, explained that basically digital platforms use a user behavior analysis system or behavioral analytics to determine the content displayed to users.
"We work with amplification algorithms. If we usually look for a car, the ad appears on the car. We usually look for shoes, shoes appear. We like sports, sports appear. That is the amplification of the algorithm," said Teguh at the Launch of the Jangan Asal Klik Campaign and VIDA Whitepaper on Tuesday, March 10 in Jakarta.
However, unfortunately, this mechanism is considered very vulnerable to be used by digital crime perpetrators to direct users to misleading content due to the lack of further verification.
"Well, the problem is, if people, for example, are looking for cheap goods, the algorithm will direct us to cheap goods content. Without the algorithm verifying that it is a real seller or not," he explained.
Moreover, Teguh added, the condition is even more risky when the content is promoted by influencers who have a large number of followers.
Because according to him, Indonesia currently does not have an influencer certification system in certain sectors, such as finance and health. Unlike a number of other countries that have regulated who can provide education in these fields.
"In us, influencers are now talking about finances, tomorrow talking about artists, tomorrow talking about health, all of them can, and their followers are millions," said Teguh.
However, he emphasized that the problem of algorithms cannot be entirely blamed on digital platforms. According to him, users also have a role because they consciously choose the type of content they want to see when using social media.
Therefore, he reminded the public to always be critical of information on the internet before clicking or trusting it.
"We choose, when we open a social media account, we choose what relevant content appears, and it is our conscious choice. That's why I agree that we have to look first to click," said Teguh.
