AHY asks for no problems in the homecoming route, extreme weather is being watched out for
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) reminded that preparations for the Lebaran homecoming should not be half-hearted.
For the government, the issue is not only about the flow of vehicles that will be crowded, but also ensuring that the roads that residents use are really safe.
AHY conveyed this at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 10. According to AHY, the government continues to prepare infrastructure and facilities that will be used by the wider community during the homecoming.
He emphasized that main roads and arterial roads must be ensured in excellent condition. Because when the movement of residents begins to be high, even the smallest road damage can quickly become a disturbance in the field.
Not only land routes, AHY also highlighted the readiness of multimodal transportation. Sea, air, and train modes must be equally ready. The fleet must be adequate, while travel costs need to be suppressed through reduced tariffs or discounts so that they are more affordable for the public.
For supervision, AHY admitted that he continued to encourage the Ministry of Public Works to work full-time. He said that long routes such as Trans Java and Trans Sumatra have their own challenges, especially if the weather worsens.
This weather is what he highlighted the most. Rain and extreme weather, said AHY, must continue to be watched out for because it can damage roads and trigger accidents.
Therefore, the government's attention is currently focused on the most basic things. The homecoming route must be feasible, the fleet must be ready, and the citizens' journey must not be disturbed by problems that can actually be anticipated earlier.
