SUV Car Burns Due to a Child Who Accidentally Burned Paper in Mampang, South Jakarta

JAKARTA - An SUV car caught fire in the Bangka IX area, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta. Police said the incident was not caused by firecrackers as circulated on social media.

Mampang Prapatan Police Chief AKP Dian Purnomo said his party along with the Identification Unit of the South Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit had visited the scene to carry out checks.

"Members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Mampang Police and the Identification Unit of the South Jakarta Metro Police have visited the crime scene," said Dian when confirmed, Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Based on the statements of a number of witnesses at the location, the incident began when several children were playing by burning paper. The burned paper was then thrown into a broken chair near a parked car.

Dian revealed that the fire from the chair then grew and spread to the body of the car in front of him.

"According to the witness's statement, the children were playing with paper and throwing it at a broken chair near the parked car. The fire then burned the chair and spread to the car body," he said.

Dian ensured that the fire was not caused by firecrackers, but was caused by a fire that spread from a burning chair near the vehicle.

"So it's not because of firecrackers," he concluded.
