1.816 Indonesian Citizens of the Online Fraud Syndicate in Cambodia Return to the Country
JAKARTA - The number of Indonesian citizens (WNI) ex-scam syndicate from (online scam) in Cambodia who returned to the country continues to increase, along with the facilitation provided by the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
"From the end of January to March 8, 2026, a total of 1,816 Indonesian citizens have been facilitated to return to Indonesia," the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh wrote in a written statement, Tuesday (10/3).
Further explained, most of the Indonesian citizens who were facilitated to return home did not have a passport and faced an overstay fine due to expired residence permits.
To speed up the repatriation process, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh facilitated the issuance of a Provisional Passport Travel Letter (SPLP) for Indonesian citizens who do not have travel documents.
"To date, more than 2,112 SPLPs have been issued," the Phnom Penh Indonesian Embassy wrote.
In addition, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh also coordinates closely with Cambodian authorities to facilitate the removal of overstay fines for Indonesian citizens.
"So far, more than 3,211 Indonesian citizens have obtained approval for the removal of the fine," said the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
It is known that the surge in demand for repatriation assistance is reflected in the increasing number of Indonesian citizens who come directly to the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
From January 16 to March 8, 2026, a total of 5,481 Indonesian citizens have requested repatriation facilitation, surpassing the total cases handled by the Indonesian Embassy throughout 2025, which is 5,088 Indonesian citizens.
The increase in the number of cases occurred in conjunction with the eradication of online fraud networks carried out by the Cambodian Government since the beginning of January 2026.
"The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh will continue to coordinate with various parties in Cambodia and in Indonesia to ensure that the process of returning Indonesian citizens can run safely, orderly and smoothly," said the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
