226 Children in Banten Experience Psychological Violence in 2025, Much of it Triggered by Parent Conflicts
JAKARTA - A safe and harmonious family environment is an important factor in child development, especially to maintain their mental health. At a time when children live in a household atmosphere full of conflict, the risk of psychological disorders can increase.
The Banten Provincial Office for Women Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning recorded as many as 226 children experiencing psychological violence throughout 2025. Most of these cases were triggered by conflicts within the family.
Head of DP3AKB Banten, Iwan Aridiansyah Sentono, explained that psychological disorders in children often arise due to an unharmonious household condition, especially when children witness the parents' quarrel directly.
Based on data from the Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children (Simfoni-PPA), the highest number of cases was recorded in South Tangerang City with 112 cases, followed by Cilegon City which recorded 54 cases.
"Sometimes the child sees the parents' constant fights, even sees his mother being beaten by his father. This condition automatically disturbs the child's psychological condition," said Iwan.
In addition to physical violence in the home, verbal violence is also a common factor. Harsh words or insults that degrade can make children experience a loss of confidence or loss of confidence.
Iwan explained that the impact of psychological trauma on children is often not visible directly. In many cases, new parents realize there is a problem after the child shows significant behavioral changes, such as becoming more quiet or distancing themselves from the social environment.
To help the victims, DP3AKB Banten provides various assistance services. The form of assistance includes counseling with professional psychologists and providing a safe home for children who have experienced severe trauma.
"Our assistance is provided according to the needs of the reporter. The main focus is to restore the child's mental health so that they can regain confidence and grow normally," said Iwan.
