The Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq reminded the landslide of garbage in TPSTBantargebang to be a loud alarm for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to stop waste management with the open dumping method.
"This incident should not have happened if the management was carried out according to the rules. TPST Bantargebang must be a lesson for all of us to immediately improve for the safety of human life and environmental sustainability," said Minister of LH / Head of the Environment Control Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq in a statement confirmed in Jakarta, Monday (9/3).
He said the garbage landslide on Sunday (8/3), which caused four people to die, was proof of the systemic failure of waste management in Jakarta which should no longer be tolerated.
The deadly tragedy, said Hanif, is a loud alarm for the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately stop waste management with the open dumping method which continues to threaten the lives of residents and officers.
Currently, KLH/BPLH has begun a thorough investigation and strict enforcement of the law to ensure that the problem of garbage in the capital does not again take human lives.
Hanif also said that Bantargebang is a "tipping point" for the failure of waste management in Jakarta, which currently has a critical load of 80 million tons of waste for 37 years.
The use of the open dumping method at the location, according to Hanif, is considered to violate Law Number 18 of 2008 because the existing system is no longer able to reduce the risk of security for residents.
