Rupiah Appears Mighty Weekend, Strengthens To Around IDR 14,000

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate is able to appear mighty this weekend. On Friday, May 8, the rupiah closed up 0.50 per cent to a level of Rp. 14,920 per US dollar (US).

This result also made the rupiah the currency with the highest strengthening in the region. Various positive sentiments were able to support the strengthening of the rupiah, as predicted by analysts.

VOI observed at 15:05 WIB, apart from the rupiah, the majority of currencies in Asia were in the green zone. Only the Malaysian ringgit and Japanese yen weakened against the US dollar.

The ringgit became the currency with the deepest weakness after falling 0.21 percent. Meanwhile, the Japanese yen edged down 0.06 percent.

Meanwhile, the South Korean won was below the rupiah after successfully strengthening 0.42 percent. Following this, the Indian rupee and the Philippine peso both rose 0.27 percent.

Not to forget the Thai baht which also appreciated 0.24 percent. Then there was the Taiwan dollar and the Singapore dollar which strengthened respectively 0.19 percent and 0.10 percent. The Chinese Yuan also managed to slightly strengthen 0.06 percent against the US dollar.
