Boy George Blak-blakan Akui Pakai Bantuan AI untuk Menulis Lirik Lagu
JAKARTA - The world's pop music icon from England, Boy George, has openly revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) technology has drastically changed the way he writes songs.
In the midst of a heated debate about the ethics of using AI in the creative industry, the Culture Club vocalist actually felt that the technology was a productive dialogue partner in composing a series of poetic words for his musical works.
George emphasized that the process of using AI has provided a level of independence that he has never felt before as a lyricist.
The musician, whose real name is George Alan O'Dowd, feels no longer burdened by the judgments of others while exploring the raw ideas that often arise in a very personal creative process.
"This practice really helps me as a lyricist. You don't work with other people. You don't even have to worry about what they're thinking," George said in the latest episode of the Happy Place podcast hosted by Fearne Cotton.
"I'm a top-line writer, so I write top-line melodies. Everyone who works with me sends me tracks, and I'll just sit down with them, and I'll play it over and over again," he continued.
The singer, popular for his hit "Karma Chameleon", also told how he built a unique interaction with ChatGPT.
According to him, AI is not just an automated tool, but an entity that can be trained to understand its style of speech. He is not afraid to give sharp criticism to the machine if the results provided do not suit his taste.
"I had a fantastic conversation with ChatGPT. And I would say: 'Oh, that lyric is rubbish. That's not what I would say.' You know what I mean? But, actually, you can train it," the 64-year-old musician added.
Boy George's move this time is not new in his career journey. Last year, he was also known to use AI assistance to re-record vocals on some of his biggest hits, including the iconic song released in 1983, "Karma Chameleon".
