Food and Drug Administration: All Samples Pass Laboratory Tests
JAYAPURA - The Jayapura Food and Drug Supervisory Agency ensures that the takjil snacks sold at a number of locations in Jayapura City are safe for the public to consume after testing various food and beverage samples.
The Head of the Jayapura Food and Drug Supervisory Agency, Herianto Baan, said the testing was carried out on various takjil sold by traders at a number of crowded points before breaking the fast.
"On Monday we conducted a laboratory test directly in the field using a test kit and all the samples we took were found to meet health requirements and were suitable for consumption by the public," said Herianto in Jayapura, Antara, Tuesday, March 10.
According to him, during the surprise inspection, officers also checked for the possibility of containing dangerous chemicals that are often misused in food products.
Some substances of concern in the examination include formalin, borax, and textile dyes such as rhodamin B and metanil yellow.
In addition to the content of harmful ingredients, officers also pay attention to the cleanliness of the place and the process of serving food by traders.
"We also convey that cleanliness in the production and presentation of food is very important to prevent bacterial contamination that can cause health disorders such as diarrhea and food poisoning," he said.
Herianto also appealed to business actors, including seasonal traders during Ramadan, to maintain honesty in trading by not using prohibited food additives.
"Food hygiene and quality must be the top priority for mutual safety. We want to ensure that people feel safe and comfortable during the fasting month without worrying about what they consume," he said.
