2026 Lebaran Homecoming in West Java is Marked by the Threat of Landslides and Rob Floods

BANDUNG - The West Java Provincial Transportation Office is aware of the potential for hydrometeorological disasters that are estimated to be able to disrupt the smooth flow of the Lebaran 2026/1447 Hijriah homecoming and return, in addition to increasing vehicle volume.

Head of the West Java Transportation Service Dhani Gumelar said the potential for the disaster was based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, especially in the southern line which has a landslide-prone topography due to high rainfall.

"If the disaster-prone point, as reported by BMKG, especially in the south. The area is prone to landslides because the rainfall or hydrometeorology is still quite high," said Dhani, Monday (9/3).

In addition to the southern route, said Dhani, the North Coast (Pantura) route area also needs to be watched out for because it has the potential to be affected by flash floods due to rising sea levels.

Due to these various potentials, travelers who cross the southern and northern alternative routes are urged to increase their vigilance. West Java's Dishub also continues to map vulnerable points to help the community during the homecoming period.

In addition to the threat of hydrometeorological disasters, West Java's Dishub also anticipates a concentration of vehicle density that is expected to increase during the Lebaran homecoming and return period.

Dhani explained that the concentration of vehicle density is expected to occur in two main phases, namely before Lebaran in the toll gate area and after Lebaran on the route to tourist destinations.

"If the vulnerable point of congestion will probably be divided into two. The first one before Lebaran usually occurs at the toll gates because it is likely to be implemented one way system," he said.

A number of points predicted to be the center of traffic density include the Pasteur Toll Gate Toll Gate, the Nagreg area in Bandung Regency, and the Ciawi area. According to Dhani, these points are the meeting of vehicle flows that will be broken down through the provision of officers and supporting facilities in the field.

Entering the pascalebaran phase, the West Java Regional Police will shift the focus of traffic security to a number of favorite tourist routes, such as the Puncak, Lembang, Ciwidey, Cipanas Garut, Cilimus areas, to the southern coastal areas such as Pangandaran and Palabuhanratu.

"After Lebaran, usually many people do tourist activities. It is predicted to occur in Puncak, Lembang, Ciwidey, Cipanas Garut, Cilimus Kuningan, and the most favorite in the south such as Pangandaran and Palabuhanratu," said Dhani.

In addition, West Java's Dishub also anticipates potential side obstacles in the form of overflow markets that usually appear on H-3 Lebaran. Control efforts are carried out by partnering with the Police and the police to channel the flow and limit the use of the shoulder of the road.

"For the crossing of residents, there will only be one place so that they are not scattered. It will be limited to using certain barriers so as not to interfere with the smooth flow of the road," he said.
