InJourney Optimistic that Indonesian Tourism Remains Enthusiastic despite Geopolitical Warming
JAKARTA - The state-owned holding company for aviation and tourism, InJourney, is optimistic that Indonesia's tourism sector will remain intact even though the world is facing an escalation of geopolitics, especially in the Middle East region.
This condition is considered potentially affecting the global tourism and aviation industries.
InJourney's Commercial Director, Veronica Sisilia, acknowledged that geopolitical tensions could certainly have an impact on various aspects of the industry, ranging from energy price volatility, exchange rate fluctuations to the potential cancellation of international flights.
Moreover, continued Veronica, the increase in world oil prices had approached 100 American dollars (USD) per barrel.
"What has happened to date, the volatility in energy prices, exchange rates and so on, is certainly an impact on all of us, we all understand," he said at a press conference regarding InJourney Hospitality's readiness to welcome the 2026 Lebaran holiday at the Sarinah Building, Jakarta, Monday, March 9.
Even so, Veronica assessed that the national tourism sector has a fairly strong resilience. Moreover, he said, supported by the size of the domestic tourism market in Indonesia which continues to show high demand.
Veronica said that potential operational disruptions such as flight cancellations could indeed occur, but the strength of the domestic market was an important factor in maintaining the stability of the national tourism industry.
Moreover, he continued, in Indonesia is preparing for the peak period of the 2026 Lebaran holiday.
Therefore, InJourney is preparing various flagship programs to welcome the Lebaran peak season which emphasizes cultural values for tourists.
"We want everyone to enjoy this Eid with a heart that is eager to go home, go out, talk to family, take a plane and so on, that's what we emphasize for the current situation," said Veronica.
Veronica said that the trend of domestic tourism travel showed positive growth throughout 2025. The number of domestic tourists recorded around 101 million trips with an increase of around 14.4 percent.
In addition, continued Veronica, the number of foreign tourists recorded in the period reached around 1.14 million visits.
"We are still seeing a forecast of growth in tourists entering in 2025, the closure in December is around 14.4 percent. We hope that domestic tourism will still be strong," he said.
In the future, InJourney is also optimistic that the trend of visiting tourist destinations managed by the company will continue to increase.
The company projects a growth in visits of around 15 percent, especially in the Borobudur Temple, Ratu Boko, and Prambanan Temple areas.
Meanwhile, continued Veronica, the occupancy rate of hotels managed by InJourney Hospitality is also expected to grow by around 10 percent this year.
"InJourney hopes to provide a pleasant experience for tourists who celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families, both through homecoming trips and holiday activities," said Veronica.
