Starting March 13, Trucks Carrying Prohibited Goods Will Not Pass Through Trans Sumatera Toll Road
JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) or HK announced that the operational restrictions on freight transportation on a number of Trans Sumatra Toll Roads (JTTS) will take effect on March 13, 2026.
Acting Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary of Hutama Karya Hamdani explained that the operational restrictions referred to the Joint Decree (SKB) between the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), Korlantas Polri and the Ministry of Public Works (PU).
In detail, the restrictions on freight transportation apply to the Pekanbaru-Dumai Toll Road, the Betung-Tempino-Jambi Toll Road, the Bayung Lencir-Simpang Ness segment, and the Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung Toll Road.
"The implementation of these restrictions is a form of our support for the government's policy to maintain the smooth flow of traffic and increase road user safety during the homecoming and return period," said Hamdani in a written statement, Monday, March 9.
Technically, the operational restrictions for logistics trucks will be implemented continuously on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 12.00 local time. The rules will only be lifted on Sunday, March 29, at 24.00 local time, covering toll roads and arteries.
The company ensures that it has carried out socialization through the installation of banners at toll entrances and radio channels to minimize congestion at toll gates.
Drivers who violate will be directed to exit the toll or turned around by police officers who are on duty in the field.
"We ask all toll road users, especially cargo drivers, to understand and comply with this operational restriction policy for the smooth flow of Lebaran 2026 homecoming and return," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Aan Suhanan said that the prohibited vehicles include goods cars with three or more axles, trailer cars, coupled trains, and transporters of mining and building materials.
The ban also targets trucks transporting soil, sand, stone, iron, cement to wood.
"Like last year's Lebaran and Nataru transportation, it is predicted that there will be a surge in people's movements. To maintain the smooth flow of traffic and improve road safety, there needs to be arrangements for logistics vehicles," he said.
Even so, the government provides an exemption for fuel transportation (BBM/BBG) for money, animals, livestock, fertilizer and basic commodities.
The exempted vehicles are required to attach a valid load letter on the left windshield as proof of the identity of the commodity.
This step is considered crucial considering that the majority of JTTS users on normal days are dominated by heavy logistics vehicles.
With the emptying of the lane from large trucks, it is hoped that the road capacity will accommodate millions of private vehicles that will pass during the Lebaran period.
