The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has again provided incentives for the conversion of electric motors.

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that he would again provide incentives for people who want to convert gasoline-powered motorcycles into electric motorcycles.

For information, this program has previously been rolled out by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2023.

"This conversion is part of the strategy to shift motor vehicles in particular and cars from gasoline to batteries. This is a long-term plan to reduce our pollution as well. This is part of the new energy needed," Bahlil told the media, Monday, March 9.

He added that to launch this program, the government will also provide incentives for people who want to convert fossil-fuel motorcycles into electric motorcycles. Gradually, the government will convert 120 million motorcycles in the next 3 to 4 years.

"Of course, the state will be present to share the burden with the community when it is switched from gasoline to electric motorcycles. There must be some kind of sweetener," said Bahlil.

However, Bahlil was reluctant to disclose the amount of incentives that would be borne by the government. He admitted that he still had to hold a meeting with the task force to determine the technical and amount of incentives to be given.

"We have just formed the task force, I will report to the task force first," said Bahlil.

For information, President Prabowo has asked Bahlil to optimize efforts to convert fossil-fuel motorcycles into electric motorcycles. Gradually, the government will convert 120 million motorcycles in the next 3 to 4 years.

"The President very much wants the implementation to be carried out immediately and God willing we will do it in a short time. The President said that a maximum of 3 to 4 years, even if it can be faster," explained Bahlil.
