XPeng is considering bringing the P7 electric sedan to Indonesia
JAKARTA - The competition for electric vehicles in Indonesia is getting more crowded as the public's interest in battery-based cars increases. This condition makes various global automotive manufacturers compete to present their best products, including XPeng, a Chinese electric car manufacturer.
Currently, XPeng has marketed two models in Indonesia, namely X9 and G6. Although the product selection is still limited, the company gives signals to add new models to strengthen its presence in the national automotive market.
Vice President of Marketing XPeng Indonesia Hari Arifianto, revealed that his party was studying several model options that could be brought to the country. One of the ones being considered is the P7 electric sedan which was shown to the public at the 2026 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS).
"We are studying the opportunity to market the right-hand drive version of the P7 electric sedan in Indonesia. How is the market response," Hari explained to reporters in Central Jakarta, some time ago.
However, he explained that presenting a vehicle with a right-hand steering configuration could not be done in a short time. The process requires a series of developments and technical adjustments to suit the needs of the target market.
In addition, XPeng is also considering the characteristics of the Indonesian automotive market, which is currently dominated by SUV and MPV types of vehicles. These two segments account for around 60 percent of total car sales in the country.
With this condition, automotive manufacturers must be careful in determining which products will be launched to really suit the tastes of local consumers. "Our production capacity is limited, so we have to choose the model that best suits the Indonesian market," he said.
