WhatsApp prepares a paid service "Plus", users can pin 20 chats and customize the application

JAKARTA - Meta's instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, is reportedly testing a paid subscription service called WhatsApp Plus aimed at users with more extensive feature needs. This package will offer a number of additional capabilities, ranging from increased conversation control to application customization options.

Since its launch in 2009, WhatsApp is known as a free service that provides instant messaging, voice and video calls, and media sharing. However, in recent years, this platform has continued to evolve with various new features as the number of users around the world increases.

Reports from WABetaInfo say that WhatsApp Plus is currently still in the development stage and is not yet publicly available. The feature is being tested in the beta version of the app for Android and iOS.

This move is in line with its parent company, Meta's plan, which in January 2026 stated that it would test a premium service model on a number of its platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

However, this paid service is optional. Users who do not subscribe can still enjoy the main functions of WhatsApp for free, including sending messages, making voice and video calls, sharing files, and using the privacy features currently available.

The WhatsApp Plus package is said to focus more on user convenience than changing the basic experience of the messaging application.

One of the main features offered is an increase in the pin limit per conversation. Currently, users can only pin a maximum of three chats at the top of the conversation list. Through the Plus service, the limit is rumored to increase to 20 chats, allowing users to organize important conversations more flexibly.

In addition, this service will also bring various personalization options for the application display. Users can choose from 14 different application icons as well as change the accent color of the interface from 19 color options. These color changes will affect a number of other display elements such as tabs, filters, to action buttons.

Other features that are said to be under consideration include exclusive stickers for customers, special ringtones for WhatsApp calls, and more interactive message reactions with additional conversation effects.

The developer is also said to add new features gradually based on user feedback after the service is launched.

Until now, there is no information regarding the price of the WhatsApp Plus subscription. Because it is still in the development stage, Meta has also not announced the official launch schedule.

However, the report states that WhatsApp is starting to prepare a waiting list system for users interested in trying the service. The "join waitlist" option is found in the beta version of WhatsApp Android 2.26.9.6.

Users who get beta access can see a waitlist banner in the settings menu or on the sticker board. Joining this waitlist only serves as a notification when the official premium service is launched and does not automatically register users as customers.

For now, the waitlist feature is only available to a small number of beta testers in some regions. WhatsApp is said to be planning to expand its access in the next few weeks.
