Serang Police Detains Gang of Glass Breaking Specialists who stole Rp455 Million in Cash
JAKARTA - The Mobile Reserse (Resmob) team of the Serang Police Criminal Investigation Unit, arrested a gang of theft specialists with a modus operandi of breaking glass that had robbed bank customers of up to Rp. 455 million in the Serang Regency area, Banten.
The Serang Police Chief AKBP Andri Kurniawan said the three suspects with initials AS (55), CA (33), and AM (39) were arrested in the Cisoka area, Tangerang Regency, only three days after their last action.
"We secured the perpetrators in two different locations in the Cisoka area when they were allegedly going to return to commit crimes with bank customers as targets last Tuesday (5/3)," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 9.
Andri explained that the arrest began with a report from the victim named Ani Dian (46) who lost Rp55 million in cash in Cikande on Monday (2/3).
The money that had just been taken from the bank for the employee's salary was cooked by the perpetrator by breaking the car's glass while the victim was exchanging coins at a grocery stall.
Based on the results of the in-depth examination, it was revealed that this plot was also the mastermind behind a major theft on the Serang-Jakarta Highway, Ciruas District, in September 2025 with a total loss of IDR 400 million.
"From the two crime scenes, the total money that the perpetrators managed to steal reached Rp. 455 million. The suspect's confession, the money has been used up to meet daily needs and pay debts," added the Police Chief.
The police secured the perpetrators and the evidence for further investigation. For their actions, the three suspects were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a charge that is threatened with imprisonment for more than five years.
The police appealed to bank customers who carry large amounts of money to always be vigilant and not leave money in vehicles without supervision, and suggested asking for police escort if necessary.
