Pademangan Geger residents, 9-year-old boy found dead in the Sunter River
JAKARTA - A 9-year-old boy was found dead in the Sunter River, East Pademangan, Pademangan District, North Jakarta. The victim is suspected of drowning while swimming at the scene.
Later it was found out that the victim, with the initials HDS, was a resident of Jalan Pesanggerahan II No. 86, RT 05/012, Pademangan Timur Village, Pademangan District, North Jakarta.
Pademangan Police Chief AKP Daniel Dirgala confirmed the incident. After receiving the report, his party immediately headed to the scene.
"Pademangan Police personnel immediately headed to the location after receiving a report from the community," said AKP Daniel when confirmed, Monday, March 9, 2026.
The Pademangan Police then conducted a check and coordinated with the SAR team and firefighters to conduct a search.
"Based on the testimony of witnesses at the location, the incident began when a friend of the victim named J was swimming on the banks of Kali Sunter. The victim who came then tried to swim," he said.
However, it is suspected that the victim did not have the ability to swim so he immediately drowned when he entered the stream.
A resident named Wuri Setyo Handoyo who happened to pass by the location heard a cry for help. He tried to help by jumping into the stream to look for the victim.
However, the rescue attempt was unsuccessful because the victim was suspected of being carried away by the current which was quite strong.
Residents and officers then searched the area around the scene. After the search was carried out, the victim was finally found by residents who helped in the search process.
The results of the examination stated that the victim had died. The police chief emphasized that from the results of the initial examination, there were no signs of violence on the victim's body.
"Based on the medical examination, no signs of violence were found on the victim's body," he said.
The plan is that the victim's body will be buried in his family's hometown.
