DKI Provincial Government Emphasizes Free Funeral at 82 TPU, Residents Asked to Report If There is a Toll
JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) responded to complaints from residents regarding alleged illegal levies (pungli) in funeral services at a number of public cemeteries (TPU) in Jakarta.
Through the City's Parks and Forests Service (Distamhut), the DKI Provincial Government confirmed that all funeral services at 82 TPU managed by the local government were provided free of charge to residents.
Head of the DKI Jakarta City Forestry and Parks Service, M. Fajar Sauri, said this policy aims to ease the burden of families who are grieving.
"Free funerals are a form of government presence at the most difficult time for residents. We ensure that every resident of DKI Jakarta receives a decent, dignified, and free of charge funeral service," said Fajar in his statement, Monday, March 9.
He emphasized that the funeral services provided by the local government must also be transparent and free from illegal levies, ranging from the cremation process to the funeral of the body.
"As part of comprehensive public services, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also provides various supporting facilities free of charge for the community," he said.
In addition to free funerals, the DKI Provincial Government also provides a number of supporting services at no additional cost. One of them is the management of the Cemetery Land Use Permit (IPTM) for new tombs, extensions, and overlapping tombs.
Funeral car services are also prepared to transport the bodies from the funeral home or hospital to the TPU. This service can be accessed via hotline (021) 5480137, (021) 5484544, or 0816878889.
In the TPU area, families can also use facilities such as tents measuring 3 x 3 meters, chairs, to a loudspeaker system without charge. The process of digging and closing the tomb to maintaining the tomb area is also carried out by the Other Service Provider (PJLP) personnel.
To access the funeral service, the public only needs to complete a number of administrative documents, such as a photocopy of the deceased's ID card and family card, the identity of the heirs, a medical certificate or death certificate from a hospital or health center, and a death certificate from the village.
"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that the financial burden of the families left behind can be reduced, while ensuring that the funeral process in Jakarta takes place in an orderly, humane, and in accordance with applicable regulations," said Fajar.
The DKI Provincial Government has also provided online cemetery permit management services through the Jakarta Evolution (JAKEVO) system on the jakevo.jakarta.go.id website and through the Jakarta Kini (JAKI) application.
According to Fajar, the digitization of this service is carried out to facilitate the administrative process while minimizing direct interactions that have the potential to cause illegal levies.
He also reminded the public not to give any tips or rewards to officers in the field, including PJLP officers.
If you find a suspected extortion or service obstacle, the public is asked to report through the Horticulture and Cemetery Service Hotline at 0858-9000-9132, the JAKI application, or through the official social media accounts @tamanhutandki and @dkijakarta.
