Soal Sidak Meta: Rendahnya Kepatuhan Platform Bisa Picu Kejahatan Digital
JAKARTA - Observer and Chairman of the CISSReC Cyber Security Research Institute, Pratama Persadha, appreciates the steps taken by the Ministry of Communication and Digital which carried out a raid against Meta because of the low level of compliance of the platform with regulations in Indonesia.
Pratama assessed that this impromptu inspection was a form of the state's effort to assert that the governance of algorithms and information flows should not be entirely determined by corporate interests.
"By publicly stating the low level of compliance and linking it to a surge in digital crimes and disinformation, the government is building a narrative that platform accountability is no longer an option, but a legal and moral obligation," Pratama said in a statement received by VOI, quoted Monday, March 9.
Previously, the Minister of Communication and Information, Meutya Hafid, revealed that the compliance rate of all Meta platforms - including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads - was less than 30 percent.
In the perspective of cyber security, Pratama said, the low compliance rate indicates the potential for systemic vulnerabilities in the governance of the national digital space.
"Social media platforms have become the main medium for various cybercrime modes, ranging from fake investments, impersonation, phishing, to social engineering-based fraud," he explained.
Coupled with the large amount of online gambling content and disinformation content that threatens social stability and national resilience, these conditions show that algorithms cannot be released from social and legal responsibilities.
Pratama said that without adequate supervision and transparency, all these threats could increase the risk of social conflict.
"National regulations are designed to protect personal data, ensure responsible content moderation, and suppress the spread of illegal content. If compliance is low, then the state's capacity to protect its citizens in the digital space is reduced," said Pratama.
The presence of cross-agency elements such as the National Intelligence Agency, the National Cyber and Sandi Agency, the TNI Cyber Unit, and the elements of the National Police law enforcement in the raid shows that this issue has been positioned as a national security issue.
"This coordination reflects a unified approach in responding to low platform compliance and increasing digital crimes," he said.
