Iranian Revolutionary Guards Pledge Loyalty to Mojtaba Khamenei
JAKARTA - The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) has expressed loyalty and obedience to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
"The Iranian IRGC, supporting the choice of the distinguished Expert Council, is ready to declare full allegiance to Mojtaba Khamenei, as well as to safeguard the values of the Islamic Revolution and protect the precious legacy of the revolution's imams - Imam Ruhollah Khomeini and Imam Ali Khamenei," the IRGC said in its statement, as quoted by Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, Monday, March 9.
As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, the Iranian Expert Council announced that Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, was elected as the country's supreme leader. He is the son of the previous leader, Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint attack by the United States and Israel on February 28.
Previously, it was reported that the council continued to meet to choose a new leader despite threats from US President Donald Trump.
"The Expert Council held a meeting despite Trump's threat to disrupt it," said Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, as quoted by the SNN television station.
