DKI LH Deploys 13 Excavators to Evacuate Bantargebang TPST Waste Landslide
JAKARTA - A landslide occurred in the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing (TPST) area on Sunday, March 8. This event caused three people to die and a number of garbage trucks were buried by landslide material.
The DKI Jakarta Environmental Service (DLH) has activated emergency response operations to deal with the impact of the incident.
A joint team was deployed to evacuate the victims, evacuate vehicles that were buried, and stabilize the waste pile area.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Service Asep Kuswanto said that the handling operation was carried out immediately after the report was received.
"As soon as the incident was reported, we immediately activated emergency response operations. The main priority is the safety of officers, handling victims, and accelerating the evacuation of vehicles buried in landslides," Asep said in his statement, Sunday, March 8.
The handling at the location involved a number of elements, including Yon Armed 7/155 GS Kodam Jaya, BPBD DKI Jakarta, BPBD Bekasi City, Bekasi City Fire Service, Bantargebang Police, and Koramil 05/Bantargebang. Asep also directly led the operation in the field.
Based on provisional data, the landslide in TPST Bantargebang caused three people to die. They are Sumini (60), the owner of a stall around the location; Dedi Sutrisno, the driver of the truck of the Central Jakarta Environment Service; and Endah Widayati (25) who works as a scavenger.
In addition to the deceased, one driver of the South Jakarta Environmental Sudin truck named Slamet suffered minor injuries. He had medical treatment before being allowed to go home.
DLH also ensures that the victims will receive treatment in accordance with applicable regulations.
"All PJLP who died will receive compensation in the form of BPJS Employment, while the cost of treatment for victims who were injured will be borne by the Regional Government, and social compensation will be given to other affected victims, including stall owners and scavengers who are not PJLP status," said Asep.
During the evacuation process, the joint team deployed 13 excavators to open the landslide material pile. In addition, two ambulance units from the DLH and the Bekasi City Government were also alerted at the location.
Of the seven trucks affected by the landslide, five units have been successfully evacuated. While the other two vehicles are still in the process of being handled.
On the other hand, the DLH also took steps to stabilize the area to prevent potential landslides. The arrangement and strengthening of the stockpile zone is carried out gradually so that the condition is safe for operations.
"Safety in the operation of waste services in TPST Bantargebang is the top priority. After the area was deemed safe, we immediately carried out stabilization and arrangement of the landfill zone so that the condition was back under control," said Asep.
Even though the handling process is still ongoing, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to ensure that waste management services continue to run. DLH opened a temporary disposal point at TPST Bantargebang at night so that the rhythm of garbage trucks from Jakarta continues to run.
Meanwhile, two other disposal points are still in the process of being repaired. DLH also asked the working unit in the environment of the DKI Jakarta Environment Service to temporarily postpone the delivery of waste to the Bantargebang TPST until the evacuation process is completed.
"The DKI Provincial Government is committed to handling this situation quickly, carefully, and in a coordinated manner. Our focus is on safety, handling victims, and ensuring that Jakarta's waste management operations can recover safely," he concluded.
