China Calls for Justice for Palestinians, Wang Yi: War is Not Their Destiny
JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that the Palestinian people have the right to live in peace and be free from war, just like people in other regions of the world.
Wang Yi made the statement while answering a reporter's question at a press conference on China's diplomatic and foreign relations policy in Beijing on Sunday, March 8.
"Chaos and war are not the destiny of the Palestinian people. Just like people in other regions of the world, Palestinians also have a legitimate right to be free from war and to experience peaceful development," Wang Yi said, quoted by Antara.
The Palestinians are currently in a state of recovery after the two-year conflict in the Gaza Strip killed more than 71,000 people, mostly women and children.
Since October 2023, the conflict has also left more than 171,000 people injured.
Wang Yi said that China as a major country will continue to support the Palestinian people's struggle to obtain legitimate national rights.
"As a responsible major country, China will as always support the just struggle of the Palestinians in fighting for their legitimate national rights and encourage the international community to restore justice to the Palestinian people," he said.
According to Wang Yi, the situation in Gaza concerns the basic limits of international morality, requiring serious attention from the global community.
He said international efforts to encourage a ceasefire in Gaza were commendable, but further steps were still needed for peace to be sustainable.
"The efforts of the international community to encourage a ceasefire in Gaza are welcome, but to consolidate the ceasefire, encourage reconstruction, and resolve the Palestinian issue in a comprehensive and sustainable manner, continuous efforts are still needed," Wang Yi said.
He emphasized that the resolution of the Palestinian conflict can only be achieved through an approach that has been widely recognized by the international community, namely the Two-State Solution.
"The solution is the 'two-state solution'. All other arrangements or the establishment of new mechanisms must encourage, not undermine the two-state solution," said Wang Yi.
Wang Yi also assessed that the international community cannot allow the Palestinian issue to be marginalized from the global agenda. He added that the United Nations has a great responsibility to play a leading role in the process of resolving the conflict.
Meanwhile, Gaza is currently under the authority of a mechanism called the Board of Peace (BoP) initiated by US President Donald Trump.
The mechanism emerged after the UN Security Council resolution on November 17, 2025 authorized UN members together with the BoP to form an International Stabilization Force (ISF).
Through this mechanism, the Gaza Strip is under a unified command tasked with maintaining stability and supporting the recovery process.
ISF operates under the strategic guidance of BoP and is funded through voluntary contributions from donor countries as well as BoP and government funding sources.
A number of countries that joined the BoP include Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Albania, Bahrain, Belarus, Bulgaria, Cambodia, El Salvador, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Mongolia, Morocco, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
The coalition is led by the United States, but does not include Palestine as a member. Several major European countries such as France, Germany, and the United Kingdom are also not listed on the list.
In addition, two other permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely China and Russia, also did not join the mechanism.
