Two LRT Jakarta Extension Routes are Studied: Manggarai - Dukuh Atas or Kelapa Gading-JIS

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is studying the further development of the Jakarta LRT network after the Velodrome-Manggarai phase 1B project was completed. Two track options that are being considered are Manggarai-Dukuh Atas or Kelapa Gading-Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).

President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) Iwan Takwin said that in terms of licensing the development of the Jakarta LRT actually has a plan for the next phase, namely phase 2A towards JIS and phase 2B towards Halim Perdanakusuma.

However, the decision on the next phase of construction is still in the study phase, especially regarding the project financing scheme.

"Currently, if we talk after 1B in Manggarai, where is the continuation? Well, that 2A to JIS and 2B to Halim, it is indeed approved by the Ministry of Transportation," Iwan told reporters, Friday, March 8.

According to him, Jakpro as a regional business entity must consider various factors before continuing to develop new networks, including economic conditions and funding opportunities from partners or investors.

"Well, but with the current conditions, Jakpro then has to think about how our creativity is from the funding side," he said.

Currently, Jakpro is conducting a study to determine the priority of the next network development, including looking at the interest of potential partners who have the potential to be involved in the project. The results of the study will later be submitted to the Governor of DKI Jakarta as a consideration for determining which line to build first.

Meanwhile, Deputy Special Staff Coordinator for the Governor of DKI Jakarta Yustinus Prastowo said that the two options for the continuation of the route that are being considered by the DKI Provincial Government have their own advantages.

Prastowo said the Manggarai-Dukuh Atas line was relatively easier to realize because it only needed to connect existing networks and the number of additional stations was not as much as the development of other routes.

However, if the development goal is directed to opening new economic growth centers, the route to the northern area of Jakarta is considered to have greater potential. Although, in terms of investment value, it requires greater financing because the route is longer and will include seven stations.

"Yes, of course, the plus-minus of the investment will definitely be bigger to the north, longer. But he will awaken the potential of a new economy quite big," said Prastowo.

"If Manggarai-Dukuh Atas is really central, it is. And there should already be a KRL, TJ that is complementary," he continued.
