Perfect in the Indian Wells Opening Match, Alcaraz Beats Dimitrov
JAKARTA - Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz opened his season at the BNP Paribas Open perfectly. In the opening match, he managed to beat Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov.
In the match which took place in Indian Wells on Sunday morning WIB, Alcaraz defeated Dimitrov with a final score of 6-2 and 6-3. He performed with the same performance as when he won the Australian Open and the ATP 500 tournament in Doha last month.
As a two-time Indian Wells champion, Alcaraz extended his winning streak to 13 matches. Even though he admitted earlier that the condition of the field would make it difficult for him.
"I knew it would be difficult with the conditions on the field," Alcaraz said after his victory in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells, quoted by the ATP.
"His style of play is very, very dangerous and it's always difficult to control the ball when he steps onto the pitch and hits the ball."
"With the wind today, it was even harder and I think I adjusted my game better and that's why I won the match. In general, I'm very, very happy with the things I've done today," said the 22-year-old.
Despite facing challenges, Alcaraz proved his accurate and precise performance throughout 66 minutes. He even revealed a positive impression on his opening appearance this season.
"I love playing here. I really, really love being here. I think that's why I play relaxed, play calm, relaxed, try to enjoy every time I step on the court," he said.
Alcaraz will then face 26th seed Arthur Rinderknech, with a perfect 5-0 head to head record. Rinderknech advanced after his opponent in the second round, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, withdrew due to a left foot injury that gave Rinderknech a win without a fight.
