Cyprus Thinks Again After Iran Attacked for Being a British Military Base
JAKARTA - Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said his country would review cooperation related to the extension of the deployment of the British military air base.
Cyprus is known to be a victim in the midst of Iran's retaliatory attacks targeting Western assets in the Middle East. However, it was not from Iran, the British military base in Cyprus was affected by a drone attack.
"Obviously, a serious assessment needs to be made of what happened at that critical moment, especially regarding the current ongoing situation and the level of cooperation that exists," Kombos told the Greek broadcaster ERT, quoted by Antara.
The Cypriot government has expressed its dissatisfaction with the British authorities regarding the handling of the matter.
"We conveyed to the British our dissatisfaction and disappointment with the way this situation was handled, which led to an attack on the British base," Kombos said.
The US-Israel has launched attacks on a number of targets in Iran since February 28, the impact of which has caused many buildings to be damaged and caused the loss of civilian lives.
Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory as well as US military facilities in the Middle East.
The British Ministry of Defense confirmed that a drone hit the Akrotiri base in Cyprus on March 1 and caused limited damage.
The ministry said the drone was not launched from Iran.
