Maarten Paes Starts, Ajax Defeated Groningen 1-3

JAKARTA - Indonesian national team goalkeeper Maarten Paes appeared from the first minute alias starter when his team lost 1-3 to hosts Groningen in the 2025/2026 Dutch League at the Euroborg Stadium, Groningen, Saturday, March 7.

Ajax was able to equalize in the 30th minute from a header from Davy Klaassen after receiving a cross from Anton Gaaei. The score changed to 1-1.

After the break, Groningen almost took the lead in the 52nd minute when Travis Hernes' attempt from inside the penalty area was blocked by Paes.

The goal that the hosts were waiting for finally came in the 66th minute from the action of substitute Oskar Zawada. Groningen was again ahead, 2-1.

Zawada was back to being a nightmare for Ajax through his goal seven minutes later. The Polish striker scored his second goal through a header after receiving a cross from Thijmen Blokzijl.
